The Canon imagePROGRAF TM-510M marks a major step forward for Canon's 24-inch A1 TM range. Replacing the popular Canon TM-250 platform, the TM-510M brings printing, scanning and copying together all as a fully integrated large format multifunction printer.
Previous TM models could be turned into multifunction systems by adding an LM24 scanner above the printer. It worked, but it meant an additional piece of equipment to assemble and connect.
The TM-510M changes that completely.
The scanner is now built directly into the machine. There's no separate scanner installation, additional power supply or second network device to configure. Printer and scanner share the same power source, IP address and 5-inch touchscreen, creating a much simpler system for offices that regularly print, copy and digitise large format drawings.
For architects, engineers, construction companies, schools, universities and businesses working with large plans, the result is a machine that feels much more like a true multifunction printer rather than a printer with a scanner bolted on.
The Big Change: A Fully Integrated A1 Scanner
What has changed from the previous Canon TM multifunction setup?
The main improvement is how much simpler it is to use.
With previous systems, the LM24 scanner had to be assembled and mounted above the printer. The TM-510M has been designed around scanning from the start, with the scanner fully integrated into the machine itself.
That means fewer components to install, less cabling and a tidier setup in the office. Printing, scanning and copying are all controlled through the same 5-inch touchscreen.
The built-in CIS scanner uses dual-sided LED illumination to help reduce shadows when scanning folded, creased or uneven originals. That's particularly useful with working drawings that have spent time folded up on site or stored away in an archive.

Built for the Drawing Office
I mainly work with architectural plans and technical drawings. Is that what the TM-510M is designed for?
Absolutely. This is exactly the sort of workflow the TM-510M has been designed around.
A drawing can arrive on paper, be scanned into the machine, copied straight away or converted into a PDF and sent to a network folder or email address. Digital drawings can then be printed back out at A1 without having to move between separate pieces of equipment.
The scanner automatically detects the original size and gives you control over density, contrast, sharpness and image quality. White and black enhancement settings can also help clean up older drawings and make technical detail easier to read.
If you have an archive full of paper plans, the TM-510M also becomes a practical way of bringing those drawings into your digital workflow rather than simply being another printer.
Sharper Technical Printing with New Matte Black Ink
Has Canon changed anything on the printing side?
Yes. One of the important changes is Canon's new high-density Matte Black ink.
The TM-510M still uses a five-colour pigment ink system consisting of Matte Black, Black, Cyan, Magenta and Yellow, but the latest Matte Black ink has been developed to improve technical detail and thin-line clarity.
For CAD drawings, architectural plans and engineering schematics, that means small text and fine lines remain clear and easy to read.
Canon has also improved colour mapping on plain paper, giving stronger colour output for presentations, maps, classroom material, posters and other everyday graphics.
Fast A1 Printing and Scanning
What sort of speed can I expect when working with large drawings?
The whole scan-to-print process has been designed around speed.
The scanner can capture monochrome originals at up to 10 inches per second and colour originals at up to 5 inches per second at 200dpi, so copying and digitising drawings doesn't have to become a bottleneck in a busy office.
Printing is quick too. An A1 CAD drawing on plain paper can be produced in approximately 20 seconds in Fast Economy mode, while an A1 plain-paper poster takes approximately 22 seconds.
If drawings are regularly being printed, marked up, scanned and shared again throughout the day, those speeds make the TM-510M a very practical working machine.
One Screen for Printing, Scanning and Copying
Do I need a separate computer to use the scanner?
Not for normal walk-up scanning and copying.
The TM-510M uses the same 5-inch tilting touchscreen for its printer and scanner functions. From there you can access scan and copy settings as well as useful printer information such as the loaded media, remaining roll length and ink levels.
Scans can be saved directly to a USB memory device, sent by Email or SMB, making it easy to move drawings into an existing document workflow.
The printer also supports Apple AirPrint, Mopria and IPP Everywhere, making driver-free printing straightforward from compatible devices. Ethernet, Wi-Fi and high-speed USB connectivity are also available for more traditional office installations.
Designed to Handle More Than CAD
Can I still use the TM-510M for posters and presentation graphics?
Of course. CAD is one of its strengths, but the TM-510M isn't limited to technical graphics.
Its five-colour pigment ink system can also handle maps, posters, presentations, educational material, signage and general graphics, making it useful for offices that don't want a large format printer sitting idle whenever there isn't a CAD drawing to print.
It accepts both roll-fed and cut-sheet media from 203.2mm up to 610mm wide, with support for both 2-inch and 3-inch roll cores.
Media from 0.07mm to 0.8mm thick can be used, giving you plenty of flexibility when moving between everyday CAD paper and heavier presentation media.
True borderless printing is also available across a wide selection of roll widths, including 594mm A1, so posters and display graphics can come straight off the printer without white borders that need trimming.
A Smarter Multifunction Workflow
Why does the integrated scanner matter so much?
Because with the TM-510M, scanning is no longer an additional system that happens to sit above the printer. It's part of the machine from the outset.
For an architectural practice, school, construction office or any workplace where space is at a premium, that means fewer components, less cabling and a much cleaner installation.
More importantly, it makes the machine easier for different members of staff to use. You don't need to think of the printer and scanner as two separate devices. You simply walk up to the TM-510M and choose what you want to do.
Canon TM-510M Ink System
The Canon TM-510M uses a 5-colour pigment ink system consisting of Matte Black, Black, Cyan, Magenta and Yellow.
Replacement inks are available in both 130ml and 300ml capacities. That gives occasional users the option of smaller cartridges while busier drawing offices can use the larger 300ml inks.

Quiet Enough for the Office
Is the TM-510M still suitable for a normal office environment?
Yes. Despite bringing A1 printing, scanning and copying together in one machine, the TM-510M has been designed to sit comfortably in an office rather than needing a dedicated print room.
Operating noise is approximately 41dB(A), with standby noise rated at 35dB(A) or less.
With its stand, the complete machine is approximately 978mm wide, making it a compact way of adding A1 print, scan and copy capability without taking over the office.
Meet the Larger Canon TM-610M
What if A1 isn't large enough?
Canon has also introduced the imagePROGRAF TM-610M, bringing the same integrated multifunction approach to 36-inch A0 printing and scanning.
The TM-610M shares the same general scanner technology, touchscreen interface and five-colour pigment ink system, but increases the maximum print width to 917mm and maximum scan width to 914mm / 36 inches.
For larger architectural, engineering and construction environments, it provides the same streamlined print, scan and copy workflow at full A0 size.
