Epson end production of inks, announcing that it will no longer manufacture two ranges of ink which are used in its wide format photographic printers. The end of line of these cartridges will affect the SC-P series models, meaning customers will need to make some changes.
These cartridges are used in Epson Surecolour SC-P7000, SC-P8000 and SC-P9000 printer models.
You will still be able to purchase the T804 and T824 inks whilst stocks last, but as they become obsolete these printers will require the new replacement inks.
For a small range of Epson printer inks, the “ink low” communication in the printer status monitor has changed. This is due to the discontinuation in production of a component currently used within those ink cartridges. Due to the change in components, ink consumption is now calculated based on the printing of different sized dots, and ink usage must now be estimated rather than accurately tracked. As a result, varying levels of ink could remain in each cartridge. The price of the cartridges will be reduced to reflect this which is good news for the customer. Customers will still benefit from the same high quality and high reliability of Epson genuine ink, which is not impacted by the change.
You will need to update your printer firmware. This is essential before swapping to a new type of ink cartridge. Updating the firmware can start immediately so it’s best to perform this as soon as possible.
Before you install the new ink cartridge in your printer, it’s important that you update the firmware to the latest version. If this update is not performed, your printer will display an error message and it will not function. This can be solved by following the instructions on the cartridge packaging and on the leaflet enclosed with your new cartridge. The new cartridges for the SC-P6000, SC-P7000, SC-P8000 and SC-P9000 are as follows:

Due to the change in components, ink consumption is now calculated based on the printing of different sized dots. The number of dots and their size can vary depending on the resolution of the image to be printed. The removal of the sensor component means that ink usage must now be estimated rather than accurately tracked resulting in varying levels of ink being left in each cartridge at the time they request replacement. The price of the cartridges will be reduced to compensate for this change.
The amount of ink left in the cartridge will vary depending on a number of factors including the resolution and quality of printed images, image selection and print settings. The amount of ink left in each cartridge will vary depending on usage. To compensate, Epson has reduced the price of the ink cartridge.
The frequency of ink cartridge changes will vary depending on the resolution and quality of printed images.
