PermaPROtect is a range of high performance, professional and fast drying canvas protective varnishes - using a unique water-based polymer formulation.
The varnishes have been specifically designed for all inkjet canvases, particularly PermaJet's own brand, guaranteeing a clear, water-resistant and non-yellowing protective coating.
All canvas users are strongly recommended to protect their final digital canvas prints with a varnish or coating – absolutely essential for preserving the image from dirt, UV ink fading, airborne pollutants and abrasion as well as those annoying fingerprint marks!
PermaPROtectvarnishes are supplied in a ready-to-use form, so no dilution is required and it can be applied with a PermaJet custom foam roller kit to ensure that you get the very best results. The varnishes can be diluted, if required, by adding up to 20% water. This will possibly extend drying time slightly but does give the product perfect consistency to be used in paint spray guns for larger canvas coverage.
The formulation improves the lightfastness of all your digital canvas prints but, in addition, adds saturation, improved colour gamut and increases the density of the blacks.
PermaJet has taken steps to ensure that the range ofPermaPROtectvarnishes meets the necessary protection standards by having them independently tested and approved by a notable test laboratory in the UK – this confirmed that there is no discolouration or change over 85 years when exposed to UV light conditions. Certifications of these can be viewed by clicking the Brochures, Spec Sheets and Data Sheets tab.
The varnishes will additionally prevent canvas edge-cracking when folded and protect against any other environmental pollutants. Out of the can, the varnish is milky white in colour but will dry to a crystal clear finish after roller application in less than just 20 minutes. Also suitable for use with fine art inkjet paper surfaces giving them a greater degree of water and fade resistance(always do a sample area test first).
EachPermaPROtect2.5 litre can have an unbeatable yield of at least 40 square metres of canvas based on a one undiluted coat application. Further dilution can increase this (subject to application method and thickness of coating applied).
"We particularly like the effect of the varnish coatings; it brightened the image, increased the depth of the blacks but retained the essential structure of the canvas weave and did not make it over glossy or plastic the way that some varnishes can in the market place.
Overall we like the varnishes a lot, very simple to use and it left us with a very pleasing finished print (an attribute we understand many others have also commented favourably on). We used the PermaJet High Density foam roller; do not be tempted to use anything else, the quality of the foam is important to prevent 'foaming' of the varnish.
The water base made for very easy cleaning of the rollers afterwards and no unpleasant smells. PermaJet has concluded longevity testing of the varnish via an outside, UK laboratory and no degradation was measured after an equivalent of 85 years of exposure". -Mike McNamee FRPS, FBPPA - Editor, Professional Imagemaker
PermaJet offer a wide choice of specially developed protective coatings and varnishes for all types of canvas and fine art paper media, which are 100% solvent-free and eco-friendly.
These products generally serve two main purposes - firstly, they add a UV protective layer to the media's surface in order to extend the archival life of the printed image and secondly, certain coatings / sprays are able to increase an image's colour saturation or vibrancy, as well as creating a physical protective layer from manual handling and greasy fingers!
On occasions, customers have asked about using traditional physical lamination processes instead. This is sometimes not recommended as it negates any requirement to use a fine art media or canvas, as the surface will be "normalised" to match the lamination texture and finish. If you want to ensure your chosen and individualised media finish and ensure that your finished results are as you want them to be, then these finishes from PermaJet are the way to go!
Each coating product has its own suitability towards certain media and so please choose the correct item to suit your particular paper or canvas. As with any application of coatings or laminates on substrates for the first time, always do a small test area first to ensure the result obtained matches your expectations.
